Questions & Answers

The Genesis 14 kings (Part 1)

First posted: December 2, 2011

Question

I recently heard a sermon by Chuck Missler in reference to the Genesis 14 story, the battle of the nine kings, and, then, the battle between Abram and the four kings. Chuck Missler mentioned in passing that the names of the kings/cities had root meanings in names of head demons. I have been trying to track down the etymology of these kings' and cities' names and have not been successful in tracking down the correlation with demons/idols. Can you offer insight or resources that may help in this research?

[If you want to hear a study by Chuck Missler on Genesis 14, it is available at blueletterbible.org. When you reach that page, look for the link that says "Chapter 14 [1990s]"; when you click on that link, it will ask you to download a file that will allow you to hear the study. If you prefer, you can also click on this link to download a special file, which, when opened with your favourite audio software, initiates the audio stream.  To be honest with you, I had never heard of Chuck Missler until this email came in, and I only felt led to look for and listen to this bible study until after this word had been completed. We had wished that this would be the study that the site visitor was referring to, but apparently it is not. The study focuses mostly on Abraham and Lot, and the only direct reference to the 4 kings and the 5 kings is in a brief stretch between ]

bullet

Genesis 14:1

bullet

Amraphel, king of Shinar

Amraphel = "sayer of darkness; fall of the sayer"

Shinar = "country of 2 rivers"

bullet

Amraphel

bullet

am ==> multiplication (Abram, Abraham) ==> evangelist

bullet

rapha: to heal ==> evangelistic ministry

bullet

Points to the evangelistic Ox Face

bullet

This is the anointing that grows out of the foundation of the apostolic and the prophetic (the 2 rivers that form the country or "expanse")

bullet

The rise of "Amraphel" signals the time for the fall of darkness, a time of darkness for the system of evil because its time is up (Acts 2:20-21)

bullet

Arioch, king of Ellasar

bullet

Arioch = "lion-like"

Ellasar = "God is chastener"

bullet

Points to the apostolic Lion Face

bullet

Chedorlaomer, king of Elam

bullet

Chedorlaomer = "handful of sheaves"

Elam = "eternity"

bullet

Sheaves ==> Psalm 126:6 (alummah) & binding (amar) & quivers (Psalm 127) ==> The prophetic anointing

bullet

Points to the prophetic Eagle Face

bullet

Tidal, king of Goim

bullet

Tidal = "great son"

Goim = "nations"

bullet

Tidal is derived from the Hebrew/Aramaic word dechal meaning "fear" ==> reverent fear of God (Daniel 6:26, Hebrews 12:25-29)

bullet

Nations ==> The teacher endowment

bullet

Tidal was the king of various nomadic nations ==> Points to a pastoral lifestyle, shepherding animals as they moved about

bullet

Points to the pastor-teacher Man Face

King Face Ministries
Amraphel Ox Evangelist
Arioch Lion Apostle
Chedorlaomer Eagle Prophet
Tidal Man Pastor & teacher

bullet

Genesis 14:2
bullet

Bera, king of Sodom
bullet

Bera = "son of evil"

Sodom = "burning"

bullet

Burning ==> emotionalism ==> Canaanite ==> spiritual dogs

bullet

Canaanite mother spirit that begets sons of female dogs dominated by emotionalism

bullet

Birsha, king of Gomorrah
bullet

Birsha = "with iniquity"

Gomorrah = "submersion"

bullet

Submersion ==> Girgashite drowning and teachings

bullet

Iniquity = resha = unrighteousness passed down through traditions (Deuteronomy 9:27, 1 Samuel 24:13) ... "iniquity" speaks of sin passed down from generation to generation

bullet

∴ Girgashite spirit that perpetuates unrighteous patterns of thought and behaviour, spreading iniquity throughout the nation

bullet

Shinab, king of Admah
bullet

Shinab = "splendour of the father"

Admah = "red earth"

bullet

Red earth ==> Genesis 3:17 (cursed is the ground=adamah)

bullet

Shinab: from shana (to change) and ab (father)
bullet

Change ==> Judgements (Psalm 19:7-9); Father ==> Judgements (Hebrews 12:7-9)

bullet

Judgements ==> Apostle ==> Jebusite

bullet

Jebusite, earthly judgements tied to the God's curse of the Earth that keep people tied to the natural

bullet

Points to Cain (a Girgashite-Jebusite gone Amorite)
bullet

Splendour of the father ==> Admiration of those with Jebusite "wisdom" (misguided father figures) ==> Amorite glorification

bullet

Red earth ==> Girgashite earthliness

bullet

Shemeber, king of Zeboim
bullet

Shemeber = "lofty flight"

Zeboim = "gazelles"

bullet

Shemeber: from shem (=name) and eber (=pinion, wing)

bullet

Psalm 55:6 ==> wings like a dove to fly away ==> Western escapade

bullet

Isaiah 40:31 ==> wings as eagles ==> prophetic ==> Hittite

bullet

Ezekiel 17:3 ==> a long-winged eagle ==> prophetic ==> Hittite

bullet

Zeboim: from tsebiy = beauty, glory, honour ==> natural, evangelistic appeal
bullet

Zeboim: plural (2) ==> evangelistic grace & prophetic grace

bullet

Gazelle: beautiful but weak
bullet

Weakness points to the Girgashite spirit

bullet

∴ Amorite "endowment" that reduces believers to magnetic conquerors of the natural but who remain weak in the spirit realm

bullet

Points to Balaam (an Amorite-Hittite gone Girgashite weak)

bullet

The king of Zoar, Bela
bullet

Zoar = "insignificance"

Bela = "destruction"

bullet

Bela: from bala = to swallow, to devour ==> Sheol (Proverbs 1:2, Proverbs 30:16)
bullet

Sheol ==> Hittite purposelessness

bullet

Bela is the only king in Genesis 14:2 whose name is mentioned after the name of his territory instead of before <== emphasises the insignificance of his kingship and its very "inverted" or "upside down" nature ==> the matriarchy of the soul over the spirit ==> the preeminence of the Canaanite and the Girgashite spirits, ruling over a failed kingdom

bullet

Points to Korah (a Canaanite-Girgashite gone Hittite)

bullet

Korah and its followers were "swallowed up" ("Bela" ) <== Numbers 16:30-33

King

City

Shemeber Zeboim Amorite Evangelist Balaam Evangelistic grace that achieves much in the natural but is femininely weak (like a gazelle) in the spirit realm
Bela Zoar Hittite Prophet Korah King of nothing in a Sheol, black-hole world where everything is upside down
